Tom V

Yes, he is a guiding light. Almost a greater authority than BGG. But not quite. I was interested to see that Peurto Rico for him is 101st (or was it 100th?).

However Tom does LoVe Ticket to Ride; which although has a simple charm, I'm really not that taken with it. Maybe I need to play it more, and with more people.

Quite rightly he loves Dominion. That's fine.

The best thing about Tom V's top 200 is the way he chose them. That seemed like an exciting game in itself!

And where do we find this list and how he chose them?

You find it at thedicetower.com I think.

I love the fact that he doesn't adhere to the BGG list, why would he? Let's face it, he's starting from an ideal stand-point to create a top 100 list:

1. He's played thousands of games himself and can directly compare one to another.

2. His list is clearly (and openly) influenced by his own life - he includes many party games and games to get new-gamers involved (TTR).

3. He's not making a list of "great" games but a list of favorites, that's quite different from the scoring system like the one used on BGG.

The fact that Rico is way down the list had not escaped me, what I find harder to understand though is that Catan is lower still.

The important thing he's introduced though is that we should not focus too heavily on the BGG ranking, after-all, if a game's ranked 200 we may never come across it without a little help and it's still in the top 5% of games on the site.
